I’ve read 2 really good books back to back and wanted to share my thoughts.

1st book; Where Men Win Glory by John Krakauer. An amazing and true story about the NFL Football Player, Pat Tillman, who gave up his career to join the military after 9/11. The author writes about some of Pat’s early life pre-football and then his Pro career. The majority of the book is about his experience in the military and what happened surrounding his death by “friendly-fire.” While reading this book, I frequently had to stop because i was seriously aghast at what I was reading…all the stuff about what went down in the military. This book opened my eyes more and definitely pierced my heart. A must read.

2nd book; Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand. Wow. What a phenomenal book. It’s also currently on NYT Bestseller list for those that pay attention to such lists. I had read an excerpt from it via an article in Runners World website. I was hooked. Had to get the book. The story is about the life of Louis Zamperini who was a Olympic runner in the 5000 meters. The story picks up a little of his early years, and then gives you the heart of his running career and Olympic experience in the 1936 Berlin Games. The vast majority of the book is dedicated to what happened after the Olympics. Louis quickly went into the Air Force as the US went into WWII. Not too long into his time, he was on a plane that went down and he and 2 other men remained barely alive on a raft for about a month. Amazing. Then they were captured by Japanese and the story of his life as a POW is just pretty insane. I was glued to the book night after night. Hard to believe after everything he went through, but Mr. Zamperini is still alive at 94 years of age.

Highly recommend both books!! You won’t be disappointed.

In other news, I think I am gonna sign up to run the Atlanta Half-Marathon on march 20th. I seriously doubt i can break 2 hours on that hilly course, but I can sure try. ๐Ÿ™‚

Today, after a solid 8 on Silver Comet Trail.
