Feb 1: 7.86 miles, 1:18, 9:58 pace – outside, hills, heavy/tired legs

Jan 31: 4 miles, 39:55, 9:58 pace – outside, tired body

Jan 30: 2.5 miles, 23:17, 9:18 pace -treadmill; 6 miles bike – 19:31

Jan 28: 4 miles, 35:53, 8:58 pace – treadmill

Jan 27: 3.5 miles, 31:31, 9:00 pace – treadmill

Jan 25: 6 miles – treadmill

Had to run 4 days last week on treadmill because i was in NJ where temperatures did not get above 26 degrees. Also because the only times i could have run would have been in the dark, so together, these were not good options. I had to LOVE the treadmill. And now that I did my duty, I hope to not go back on for at least another week. Let’s hope the weather cooperates in Atlanta. It sure did this weekend, however I felt pretty tired on both runs outside. The sunshine kept me going, but i was tired. All over tired. I guess it was the being away and traveling and all. The great part about going on treadmill is that I was also able to use weights/machines. All in all, I feel like my legs need to refreshed. Maybe a massage this week. Next race is in 14 days.

Up & Down and All Around

Been some interesting days lately…..last sunday i had a scare with some knee pain. thankfully, it is all gone. (knock on wood) last monday, MLK jr. day, I got up on what was a very grey day and was driving to work when i was pulled over by a police officer for making a “california stop” at a stop sign right near my house. i had not even had any coffee yet. i was not happy. i should have just stayed home instead of go to work on my day off!

Tuesday – gosh things were sooo much brighter. I woke up and drove to work and there was a sense of excitement and anticipation in the air. watching the tv at work and seeing the inauguration festivities begin was pretty neat. when was the last time our country gathered in such a way for a PRESIDENTIAL INAUGURATION. When have i seen people in the streets and in coffee shops talking about all this and being hopeful and proud. How awesome it was to see a man take office who was not an old white guy; the typical choice forever. how awesome was it to see someone who people can feel in touch with rather than so far away from….pretty neat all around. I did not watch Obama’s speech live, but caught it in it’s full replay on NPR in the car later that day. I was glad to hear his sobering and realistic message;

In reaffirming the greatness of our nation, we understand that greatness is never a given. It must be earned. Our journey has never been one of shortcuts or settling for less. It has not been the path for the faint-hearted — for those who prefer leisure over work, or seek only the pleasures of riches and fame. Rather, it has been the risk-takers, the doers, the makers of things — some celebrated but more often men and women obscure in their labor, who have carried us up the long, rugged path towards prosperity and freedom.

Our capacity remains undiminished. But our time of standing pat, of protecting narrow interests and putting off unpleasant decisions — that time has surely passed. Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin again the work of remaking America.

Our challenges may be new. The instruments with which we meet them may be new. But those values upon which our success depends — hard work and honesty, courage and fair play, tolerance and curiosity, loyalty and patriotism — these things are old. These things are true. They have been the quiet force of progress throughout our history. What is demanded then is a return to these truths. What is required of us now is a new era of responsibility — a recognition, on the part of every American, that we have duties to ourselves, our nation, and the world, duties that we do not grudgingly accept but rather seize gladly, firm in the knowledge that there is nothing so satisfying to the spirit, so defining of our character, than giving our all to a difficult task.

And so it was that Tuesday ended and Wednesday began. Wednesday I left work and found my car window busted open. Sure, i was angry. But also I was reminded that even though i want to see the good in everyone, people will still do “bad” things and cause harm.

Throughout the week I have been watching past episodes of LOST, which has been great. I am totally into it!

Friday came and with it my 5 year anniversary with my job. This is the longest I have ever been at a job and i’m proud. So many years of my life were full of tumultuous change and its nice to see myself STAY in one place for a while…however long that might be. Friday also was a day a friend at work who had been there for 10 years decided to leave. It was an odd feeling to watch her leave even though i am wishing her the best. There was an aura of uncertainty in the air at our offices of what is to come next. Not the most pleasant energy to be around.

Saturday morning came and I went for a run with a friend. Was a solid 6 with hills and i felt good up and over the hills. While we sat at a restaurant counter eating some breakfast, the SUN came a shining!

Jan 24: 6 miles, 59:07,9:51 pace – outside w/ hills

Jan 22: 3 miles, 27:27, 9:08 pace – outside

Jan 21: 3 miles, 28:43, 9:34 pace – treadmill

East to West Part II

I woke up a bit late on monday and promptly put on running clothes and headed out to Red Rock Canyon. I didn’t know what to expect except that it would be hot and lots of sun. Well, the desert does not disappoint. I began the run at 8am in 85 degrees and climbing temperatures. Just 30 minutes away from the vivacious and bubbling las vegas, but one would never know it. The vastness of the land and the enormous red rocks that surrounded me was breathtaking and heart-stopping. Nothing around but pure beautiful earth.

After getting some directions from the visitor center, I headed out for the run. it sure didn’t look too challenging at first glance, but, wow, was i in for a surprise. The trails were extremely technical and at many places, tough to run. My time out there became more of a run, hike, walk due to the terrain and the relentless heat. I kept negotiating time to look around at my surroundings and take it all in and then pay attention to my footing as it would have been far to easy to take a nasty spill. There were no other runners out there. No hikers either. Just me and the rocks; pretty damn cool. I only last 1 hour out there and then decided i could run again later in the evening.

After getting back to hotel, eating and hanging out by the pool, i was ready for another run. This time i went into the spa/gym and ran on treadmill. a great reprieve from the heat.

Tuesday morning I woke up earlier and was able to get out by 7am. It was still 85 degrees! dry, dry, heat. I ran 5 miles in and around the LV strip. A good way to start out the day and good running days to begin the week. I would finish this week at over 40 miles total, which I think is a first for me.

July 20: 1st run am = 9 miles/1:30/10:00 pace; 2nd run pm = 2.5 miles/24:10/9:40 pace – treadmill

July 19: 9 miles/1:27/9:40 pace – very hilly

July 18: 2 miles/18:17/9:06 pace – treadmill

July 17: 3 miles/30:00/10:00 pace – 6am

July 15: 5 miles/48:56/9:47 pace

July 14: 1st run am = 6 miles/1:12; 2nd run pm = 4 miles/38:37/9:39 pace

TOTAL = 40.5 miles

East & West Part I

Last weeks runs were good, just not quite enough. The trail run last Saturday was awesome. Went out with my buddy, SL, and we did the Kennesaw 10 mile loop. This is never an easy trail and I’m happy to say I made the full 10 without stopping or walking up any of the tough climbs. First time in years that I did this! Felt great!

As mentioned, I left for Vegas Sunday morning. Well…I was SUPPOSSED to leave in the morning. We got stuck on the plane due to a thunderstorm. We were stuck sitting on plane for 4 hours! Not the best way to begin my mini-mini vacation, but what could I do? Nothing!! Well, after another 4 hours on the plane to the desert city and another hour or so to get my rental car, etc…I finally arrived at the hotel! Pure luxury for 2 nights!! It was fantastic. The sucky part was that I didn’t run after getting settled in like I had planned. After mother nature and luck took away about 5 hours of extra vacation time, i was too wiped to try to run. I figured I would go hard on Monday.

July 12: #1 Run = 10 miles/1:44/10:24 pace – Kennesaw Trails #2 Run = 5 miles/48:37/9:43 pace

July 10: 5.5 miles – treadmill swimsuit run

July 9: 3 miles/28:24/9:28 pace

July 8: 5.5 miles/9:26 pace

proper attire?

I went to the gym last night after leaving my office. As I was changing my clothes, I realized I did not have my running shorts in my bag. OOPS. I usually forget something like socks or sports bra, but never the shorts. Well, what’s a girl to do?

I noticed my swimsuit was in the bag and thought I could just run in it with my running shirt on top. So, that’s exactly what I did.

I have to say, I kinda felt a little like Lori Bowden!! (hee hee)
